This book presents readers with eight mentalism effects with cards. These effects revolve around the theme of a card merely thought of by a volunteer and then located by the performer thanks to his supposed mental powers.

The methods are based on an original approach that comes straight from the creative brain of Pierre Acourt. Eric Bertrand, for his part, provided some technical refinements and above all handled the writing of the book.

The so-called "Thought-of Card" effect is nothing new. All the great cardicians have offered their version, and some have even become major classics of card magic. Examples include the famous Out of Sight, Out of Mind by Dai Vernon or the Princess Card Trick in its countless guises.

Without claiming absolute originality, which is hard to prove given how many methods exist and the fact they aren't always fully known even to the authors, we have found no trace of comparable methods in the literature we are familiar with.

In that literature, two families of methods are mainly found:

  • On one hand, those based on a certain type of force. On this point, Thomas Baxter's book, A Card Merely Thought Of (2007), is of interest.
  • On the other hand, more psychological methods, using no deck of cards at all, generally relying on one or another variant of the progressive anagram. The interested reader can consult Ben Seward's book, COG (2013), or Adam Kordecki's booklet, THINK (2013), for the details.

The solutions offered in COGITA, which have nothing to do with these methods, thus complement the range of tools usable to achieve the thought-of card effect.
